    • The simple answer is no. Any diamond, certified or not, can be just as beautiful and valuable as a GIA certified stone. The difference is that a GIA certified diamond is accompanied by a grading certificate that verifies the color, clarity, carat and dimensions of the diamond. However, a GIA certified diamond has higher market liquidity in the event you ever want to sell it, or trade up to a larger one, for example. It's also possible to own a diamond and have it certified later, granted it meets the GIA's stringent criteria.

  • Aren't GIA Diamonds More Expensive?
    • Surprisingly, there isn't always a major price difference between certified and non-certified diamonds. This is because the GIA grades the stone's quality, it does not appraise the diamond. Again, unless you are planning to use the diamond as an investment, or need official verification for insurance purposes, GIA certification is not something that is considered a "must" when buying a diamond.
